The Supervisor - Pharmacy Technician provides leadership, oversight, and coordination of pharmacy technician operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant medication distribution and pharmacy support services under the direction of pharmacy leadership. The Supervisor directs the daily activities of pharmacy technicians, coordinates workflow and staffing resources, ensures adherence to departmental policies and regulatory requirements, and promotes operational excellence across all areas of pharmacy practice. In collaboration with pharmacy leadership, the Supervisor oversees technical operations including medication distribution, automated dispensing technologies, inventory management, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement initiatives. The Supervisor monitors productivity and identifies opportunities for operational enhancement and supports the implementation of best practices to improve efficiency, service levels, employee satisfaction, and patient outcomes. The Supervisor - Pharmacy Technician may perform advanced technical and operational duties as needed to support departmental workload and maintain continuity of services. The Supervisor serves as a liaison between pharmacy leadership and technical staff and represents the pharmacy department professionally in interactions with patients, physicians, nurses, colleagues, vendors, and other healthcare professionals.
• Serves as a liaison between pharmacy leadership and technical staff, fostering effective communication, collaboration, and accountability. Collaborates with pharmacists, nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care and pharmacy operations.
• Performs advanced pharmacy technician duties as needed to support workload demands and maintain continuity of services, including participation in emergency preparedness activities and support of pharmacy operations during severe weather events, disasters, and other emergency situations.
• Oversees medication distribution processes, pharmacy automation systems, and technician workflow to support timely and accurate medication delivery throughout the organization. Ensures medication area cleanliness and outdated medications are removed and accurately documented for monthly inspections. Monitors supply and drug inventory for opportunities for PAR optimization. Coordinates inventory management activities, including automated dispensing cabinets, medication replenishment, repackaging operations, electronic inventory technologies, medication storage processes, and hazardous medication handling requirements to maintain safe and efficient pharmacy operations.
• Coordinates sterile compounding operations and cleanroom activities to ensure compliance with USP <797>, USP <800>, organizational standards, and regulatory requirements (if applicable). Ensures that all daily quality checks are completed and documented appropriately (cleaning, pressures, etc.). Participate in the completions of a USP <797>/USP <800> annual gap analysis.
• Monitors IV inventory to assure optimization of supplies, fluids, and medications including exploring new IV supplies that may be more cost effective. Assists with technician competency assessments, environmental monitoring, surface sampling, hazardous drug handling activities, quality assurance programs, and collaborates with the pharmacy leadership in conducting annual USP <797> and USP <800> gap assessments and implementing corrective action plans as needed (if applicable).
• Oversees medication reconciliation workflows and technician activities to support the timely and accurate collection, documentation, and communication of patients' medication histories (if applicable).
• Identifies opportunities for improvement, data collection, and analysis to optimize efficiency. Completes Medication Reconciliation GAP analysis annually, with pharmacy administration oversight. Oversees Medication Reconciliation self-audit program, with audits results presented at pharmacy QAPI.
• Supports transitions of care initiatives, including medication discrepancy resolution, promotion of bedside prescription delivery services, identification of eligible patients, and activities designed to improve medication access, adherence, satisfaction, and continuity of care following discharge (if applicable).
• Coordinates all technical aspects of bedside delivery program including filling, checking, delivering medications timely.
• Assures quality checklists are documented and completed monthly (outdated medications reviews, hazardous tray documentation, etc.).
• Assists with inventory control to optimize inventory, including managing return products.
• Supervises team members, which includes orientation, development and evaluation of team members, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing, and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Ensures training for new team members and retraining. Supports evaluation of team member’s performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.

Minimum Education
• High School Diploma or Equivalent Required

Minimum Work Experience
• 3 years Pharmacy experience in a hospital setting. Required

Licenses and Certifications
• Registered Pharmacy Technician State of Florida Upon Hire Required
• Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 6 Months Required
