Job Requirements

The Security Officer is responsible for protecting people, property, and assets through proactive surveillance, patrols, incident response, and customer service.
This position requires a professional, dependable individual with strong observation skills, sound judgment, and the ability to respond effectively to emergency and non-emergency situations
Schedule - Part-Time
• Flexible scheduling based on department and operational requirements.
• Weekend, holiday, and rotating shift coverage may be required.

Primary Responsibilities
• Maintain a visible security presence through routine patrols, monitoring of facilities and grounds, access control, surveillance systems, and security equipment to ensure a safe and secure environment.
• Respond to emergencies, security incidents, behavioral health crises, medical events, and other high-risk situations while supporting clinical teams and escalating concerns as appropriate.
• Operate UMMS vehicles and provide transportation and escort services for patients, visitors, team members, equipment, and authorized materials in accordance with organizational policies.
• Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting patients, visitors, and staff, enforcing safety and security policies, and promoting a welcoming healthcare environment.
• Document incidents, maintain required logs and reports, utilize communication systems effectively, comply with departmental standards and regulations, and perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Experience
Education & Experience - Required
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an approved crisis intervention/de-escalation training course within ninety (90) days of hire.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required for all individuals hired into this position on or after July 1, 2026.
• Ability to meet UMMS requirements for operating organizational vehicles.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Basic knowledge of security principles, safety procedures, and emergency response practices.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
• Ability to recognize escalating behaviors and apply de-escalation techniques appropriately.
• Ability to document incidents clearly, accurately, and objectively.
• Basic proficiency in the use of radios, access control systems, visitor screening equipment, and security technology.
