Position Summary
The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients/residents. The RN delegates and coordinates patient care, based upon a documented assessment of the patient’s/resident’s needs. The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians/state tested nursing assistants/nurse aides, medical assistants, and etc., if applicable.
Department Summary
The Electrophysiology Lab is located on the 1st floor of the Building A (Bedford building) and consist of two procedure rooms and a pre/recovery area. The Electrophysiology Lab provides a central specialized area for structural/ electrophysiology procedures.
Qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
• Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.
• Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements.
• Membership in professional nursing organization preferred.

Department Qualifications
• Previous experience in an Electrophysiology Lab preferred.
• Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.

• RN applies the nursing process of assessment, planning interventions, accurately implements and/or delegates patient care, evaluates that care, and accurately communicates patient information in a timely manner.
• RN is a patient/resident advocate in conjunction with the other members of the healthcare team and fosters patient safety, comfort and satisfaction.

Department Responsibilities & Expectations
• Expected to scrub, circulate, and document various EP procedures such as: cryoablation, radiofrequency ablation, PFA, pacer implant, ICD implant, CRT P/D implant, Event recorder implant, LAAC, and ablation/LAAC procedures.
• Expected to work in prep/recovery assist Cath Lab as needed.
• Expected to help with stocking the EP rooms during downtime, as well as put stock away in the stockroom and assess product needs.
• Expected to assemble patient charts for that day or next day procedures
• Expected to maintain a neat and clean working environment. Helping to surgically clean rooms between cases, including all equipment, as well as make sure work area is clean and all stock put away after cases are completed.
• Utilizing invasive monitoring, external pacer/defibrillator, and temporary pacing devices.
• Operating St Jude Claris (EP Med) recording system.
• Connecting patients to Biosense Webster and St. Jude mapping systems.
• Performing arterial/venous sheath removal.
• Maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in all communications.
• Administer conscious sedation according to policy as well as document according to policy.
• Recovering patients from anesthesia according to policy.
• Assessing cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, renal and peripheral vascular status. Documenting findings and reporting abnormal or out of range results to physicians.
• Providing emotional support to patient/family by assessing anxiety and communicating effectively about procedures and delays in schedule.
• Proactively anticipating and responding to physician/coworker/patient or family member’s needs. Demonstrating an energetic and positive approach to work and being sensitive to customers’ physical, social and cultural needs.
• Communicating effectively with peers, medical, nursing and interdisciplinary staff in the delivery of care. Openly communicate with the Unit Director/ANM regarding any concerns.
• Supporting and following hospital policies and best practice measures.
• Abiding by the hospital attendance policy, being in your work area ready to work by the start of your shift.
• Maintaining a positive attitude, refraining from negative conversation, being open to change.
• Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the planning and delivery of nursing services.
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities of the department as appropriate.

Working Conditions
• Meal and break times are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate coverage.
• Shifts are scheduled or changed due to the staffing needs of the unit/department based upon volume and acuity.
• Work weekends and holidays as assigned or as applicable based on department needs.
• Cross training depending upon department needs.

Department Working Conditions
• Normally works 8-10 hours per day, with varying start times - with exception of call days, which may require more than the scheduled hours.
• Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated with other staff to maintain adequate unit coverage.
• Subject to changes of patient assignment to accommodate departmental needs.
• Expected to adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
• Expected to wear personal protective equipment appropriate for sterile, invasive procedures involving fluoroscopy such as, but not limited to hats, masks, gowns, shields, and lead radiology aprons throughout delivery of care.

Hazardous Exposure Category
Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
