Position Summary
The primary purpose of the Respiratory Therapist is to perform all duties under medical supervision in the treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardio-pulmonary system, and work cooperatively with the health care team in maintaining standards of care within the framework of the Ohio Respiratory Care Board (ORCB).
Qualifications
• Graduate of a CoARC accredited School of Respiratory Care
• Current, valid unencumbered State Medical Board of Ohio or multistate license to practice respiratory therapy pursuant to Section 4761.01 of Ohio Revised Code.
• Good work ethic as evidenced by infrequent absenteeism.
• Capable of functioning in the various roles of the Respiratory Therapist.
• Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.
• The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, optional.

• Proficient computer skills to complete tasks as required.
• Must be organized, able to effectively prioritize tasks and exhibit appropriate time management skills.
• Must be detail oriented while focusing on safe practices and quality care.
• Demonstrates effective communication.
• Effective appropriate and professional interactions with colleagues/physicians, patients and visitors.

Responsibilities & Expectations
• Maintains the standards of respiratory care.
• Exhibits High Reliability Organization (HRO) tools and tones.
• Provides leadership in the professional practice setting and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues and students.
• Provides a safe environment for patients.
• Follows policies, standards, protocols, and procedures of the hospital.
• Provides patients and families with education and support.
• Assists physicians, nursing, and other disciplines with tests and procedures.
• Integrates research findings into practice.
• Responsible for timely review of emails, department communications and applicable learning assignments and completion as applicable.
• Participates in economic utilization of supplies.
• Reports and accurately records pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate members of the health care team (i.e.: physicians, RN, PCS, and other RTs).
• Participate in orientation of new personnel.
• Communicate with all colleagues in a professional manner.

Working Conditions
• Meal and break times are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate coverage.
• Shifts are scheduled or changed due to the staffing needs of the unit/department based upon volume and acuity.
• Work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis as assigned or as applicable based on department needs.
• Cross training depending upon department needs.
