Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Physician Assistant (PA)

Position Summary
Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to join a busy and growing Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery practice at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas . This role combines First Assist, inpatient, and outpatient responsibilities while working directly with Dr. Neil Mauskar .
The PA will play an integral role in the full continuum of surgical care, including clinic evaluations, hospital rounding, consults, perioperative management, and operative assistance. This opportunity is ideal for a candidate who is passionate about surgery, enjoys working closely with a surgeon, and is interested in developing expertise in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

Practice Scope
This well-rounded Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery practice includes:
Reconstructive Procedures
• Breast Reconstruction
• DIEP Flap Reconstruction
• Skin Flap Reconstruction
• Complex Soft Tissue Reconstruction
• Post-Mastectomy Reconstruction
• Wound Reconstruction

Cosmetic Procedures
• Liposuction
• Mommy Makeover Procedures
• Body Contouring
• Cosmetic Breast Surgery

The PA will participate in patient evaluations, perioperative care, operative management, and postoperative follow-up.
Schedule
Monday-Friday
• Typical start time: 6:45 AM
• Combination of clinic, hospital rounding, and operating room responsibilities

Call Responsibilities
• Approximately one week of practice call per month
• Phone call coverage and occasional on-site practice coverage
• Rare hospital call-back for urgent inpatient or surgical needs
• Flexibility for occasional extended surgical days is required

Essential Functions
• Evaluate and manage patients in outpatient, inpatient, and perioperative settings
• Perform comprehensive assessments and develop treatment plans
• Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing
• Prescribe medications and treatments within scope of practice
• Conduct preoperative and postoperative evaluations
• Round on hospitalized patients
• Participate in hospital and ED consults
• Coordinate care and maintain accurate documentation
• Counsel and educate patients and families
• Participate in all aspects of perioperative patient management

First Assist Responsibilities
A significant portion of this role is dedicated to surgical first assisting, including:
• Surgical exposure and retraction
• Tissue handling
• Wound closure
• Intraoperative assistance during reconstructive procedures
• Surgical preparation and coordination
• Collaboration with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR staff

This role is best suited for someone who enjoys the operating room and wants substantial surgical involvement.
Clinical Responsibilities
Outpatient
• New patient consultations
• Established patient visits
• Follow-up appointments
• Global postoperative visits
• Preoperative evaluations
• Postoperative management

Inpatient
• Daily hospital rounds
• Surgical consults
• Admissions
• Emergency department consults
• Postoperative patient management

Procedures
• Tissue expander fills
• Minor wound debridement
• Wound management
• Other delegated procedures consistent with training and scope of practice

Qualifications
Required
• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• Texas PA license or eligibility
• NCCPA certification
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire

Preferred
• Surgical and/or First Assist experience
• Experience in Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Trauma, Neurosurgery, or other surgical specialties

Experience
• One year of experience preferred
• Open to new graduates and early-career PAs

Dr. Mauskar is open to training the right candidate and believes a newer PA can be highly successful in this role through mentorship and development within the practice.
