Job Requirements
Under the direction of professional nursing staff, the Patient Care Technician I - Nursing Surgical IMC provides direct patient care, including taking vital signs, checking surgical dressings, assisting with activities of daily living, performing blood draws, and collecting specimen samples. This role involves observing and communicating patient status to identify needs and deliver appropriate care, collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, and supporting patient safety initiatives such as fall prevention and adherence to The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals. Responsibilities also include assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges, managing wound care, urinary catheter care, blood glucose monitoring, and orthopedic device care, as well as maintaining patient comfort and documenting dietary intake and output. The technician participates in hourly rounding, responds to patient alarms, promotes a safe clinical environment, and contributes to improving patient flow while performing other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. While no prior experience is required, previous direct patient care experience in a healthcare facility is preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork, and the capacity to prioritize tasks and perform under stress. Additionally, they should be proficient in using computer systems, skilled in obtaining accurate blood glucose results with proper documentation, and capable of performing delegated nursing tasks tailored to the diverse needs of patients.
