Multimodality Technologist

Summary: Performs any combination of Diagnostic Radiography, MRI, CT, Mammography, Ultrasonography, Nuclear Medicine and/or Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures on patients in a hospital setting. The Multimodality technologist performs any combination of Diagnostic Radiography, MRI, CT, Mammography, Ultrasonography, Nuclear Medicine and/or Interventional Radiology (IR) as requested by a physician or other licensed provider and under general supervision of a Radiologist for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols. The multi-modality technologist must be able to effectively explain the procedure to the patient and be sure they are comfortable and at ease during the exam and provide care to the patients while obtaining diagnostic quality images for interpretation by a Radiologist. The Multi-modality tech will meet all of the qualifications and requirements for two of the following modalities: Diagnostic Radiography, MRI, CT, Mammography, Ultrasonography, Nuclear Medicine and/or Interventional Radiology (IR) and will work a minimum of 25% of the time in the second modality.
Education: Graduate of an Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and/or Medical Diagnostic Sonography. The multimodality technologist must meet all the qualifications and requirements for two of the following modalities:
• CT
• Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
• Licensure: The technologist performing CTs must be certified by the:
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with post-primary certification in CT – R.T. (R) (CT)
• Licensed by the State of Rhode Island - Department of Health
• Experience: One to two years’ experience preferred
• Skills: Ability to operate CT equipment, manage patients during procedure; follow verbal and written instructions, communicate with patients, visitors and employees within the organization
• Mammography
• Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
• Licensure: The technologist performing mammograms must be certified by the:
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with post-primary certification in mammography - R.T. (R) (M)
• Licensed by the State of Rhode Island - Department of Health
• Meet the MQSA guidelines
• Experience: One to two years mammography experience preferred
• Skills: Ability to operate Mammography equipment, manage patients during procedures, ability to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills, ability to be discreet, ability to maintain effective working relationships, ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate with patients, visitors and employees within the organization.
• MRI
• Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
• Licensure: The technologist performing MRI must be certified by the:
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - R.T. (R) (MR)
• American Registry of MRI Technologists (ARMRIT)
• Experience: One to two years’ experience preferred
• Skills: Level 2 MR personnel, ability to operate MRI equipment, manage patients during procedure; follow verbal and written instructions, communicate with patients, visitors and employees within the organization
• Ultrasonography – General, Vascular and Echocardiac Ultrasounds.
• Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited ultrasound training program
• Licensure: Certified or eligible for certification by:
• American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)

OR
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Sonography (ARRT) (S)
• Experience: One to two years’ experience preferred
• Skills: Ability to operate Ultrasound equipment, manage patients during procedures, ability to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills, ability to be discreet, ability to maintain effective working relationships, ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate with patients, visitors and employees within the organization.
• Interventional Radiology (IR)
• Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
• Licensure: The technologist performing IR procedures must be certified by the:
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - R.T. (R)
• Licensed by the State of Rhode Island - Department of Health
• Experience: One to two years’ experience preferred
• Skills: Ability to operate IR equipment, manage patients during procedures, ability to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills, ability to be discreet, ability to maintain effective working relationships, ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate with patients, visitors and employees within the organization.

Skills and Abilities:
• Basic computer skills
• Knowledge of MRI, Mammography, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound or X-Ray equipment
