Performs routine and advanced venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures. Under direct supervision, performs routine laboratory analytical procedures related to preparing and storing human biological samples, blood and body fluids, for microbiological, hematological, immunohematological and chemical analysis. Releases and/or places orders in hospital and laboratory computer systems, receives, processes and distributes specimens and/or blood products. Performs various preanalytical functions including loading samples onto analyzers, preparing slides for staining and preparing samples for transport to other laboratories.
Responsibilities
• Performs routine and advanced venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures on infant, pediatric and adult patients.
• Receives specimens, places orders in LIS/HIS, accessions, sorts specimens and distributes to designated areas. Insures written orders are complete in order to meet federal compliance requirements for proper billing, including authorized signatures and accurate diagnosis codes.
• Performs various functions to prepare samples for testing. Processes and prepares biological samples, blood and body fluids, for microbiology, hematology, immunohematology and chemical analysis.
• Operates and maintains equipment.
• Provides laboratory related information and assistance to health-care providers, patients, family, and co-workers.
• Demonstrates a concern for financial strength and fiscal responsibility by supporting cost-saving ideas.
• Daily tasks are integrated into workflow adjusting for periods of increased and decreased activity.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Requires completion of phlebotomy training program or 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience (clinical or hospital based preferred).
• In addition, one or more of the following is preferred:
• A) graduation from a certified health-related program at high school level or above or
• B). successful completion of Advanced Placement courses in the sciences at the high school level or
• C). successful completion of science based studies at college level (minimum 3 credit hours). Prefer GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Must have computer operational skills using a personal computer, laboratory system or other hospital information system.
• Applicant should display initiative, have the ability to multitask and be able to take on responsibilities.
• Proven ability to problem-solve and be a team member is essential.
• Must have excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
• Current CPR certification is required.
