Job description
The IACUC Compliance Specialist III will be responsible for implementation and coordination of additional post-approval monitoring programs for both the TNPRC and the New Orleans campuses. This person will work independently with minimal oversight. This person will provide high-level personalized support to researchers and Principal Investigators (PIs). This position is also responsible for all current post-approval monitoring programs currently in place at the University. These would include semiannual inspections to ensure animal welfare; monitoring that laboratory animal experiments are performed in accordance with approved IACUC protocols and federal regulations; conducting audits of procedures at the Tulane National Primate Research Center (TNPRC); Conducting and following up on semiannual inspections in consultation with IACUC members (all campuses). This position will be responsible for post-approval protocol review. This position will be responsible for implementation of a regular training program to educate faculty, staff, and students on IACUC requirements and guidelines (all campuses).

• Demonstrated computer skills (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Adobe).
• Must be able to travel between the TNPRC, Downtown Campus, and the Uptown Campus.
• Offer and implement process improvements and procedures.
• Assist with outreach and education.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed. The employee is exposed to highly confidential and sensitive information, is responsible for safekeeping of such information, and must be able to exercise extreme discretion. They must conduct all office interactions in a professional, courteous, and confidential manner.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's degree and 4 years’ experience in IACUC-related program coordination or animal research experience
OR
• High school diploma/equivalent AND ten years in the areas of animal care and use, institutional review, research administration and/or audit, or other areas of research, compliance, and/or oversight.
• Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) certification or obtained within one year of eligibility and maintain certification throughout employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Familiar with university animal research protocols and IACUC procedures
• Demonstrated experience with computerized databases such as management programs and word processing software.
• Working experience with or training in conflict resolution.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of principles of ethics in animal research, IACUC regulatory requirements, the Animal Welfare Act, and/or the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
• Excellence-driven; willing to go the extra mile (e.g., work overtime after hours or during the weekends) when necessary to ensure tasks are done properly and on time.
• Demonstrated project management skills; can break down a large project into milestones, identify interdependencies of tasks, assign tasks, and keep the project on schedule.
• Ability to multitask and can easily adjust his/her work schedule as priorities change daily.
• RVT/LVT/CVT credentialed veterinary technician or LATG certification through AALAS.
