The Associate Director for Professional Development and Outreach provides strategic leadership for the design, implementation, and assessment of faculty and staff professional development initiatives within the Office of Academic Excellence and Opportunity (AEO). The role leads the Office of AEO’s professional development portfolio for faculty and staff and develops outreach strategies that increase participation, strengthen campus partnerships, and support the office’s broader goals related to academic excellence, opportunity, welcoming community, and equal opportunity. As a key university member of the Office of AEO team, the Associate Director designs and delivers professional development and related outreach that help faculty and staff build welcoming, high-performing, and legally compliant learning and work environments. The role collaborates with campus partners to identify professional development needs, align AEO programming with institutional priorities, and assess the impact of AEO learning opportunities for faculty and staff across a broad range of issues including the following: educational services, information services, administrative services, data management services, and leadership. This position provides evaluation and assessment for all AEO professional development and outreach activities and closely collaborates with the AEO Data Strategist. Reporting to the Director, the Associate Director assists with training and supervising professional and student staff collaborators in AEO professional development with faculty and staff. The Associate Director also serves as a liaison to campus and community partners whose work intersects with AEO faculty and staff professional development, leadership development, and campus community-building initiatives to strengthen collaboration, expand participation in AEO initiatives, and align office communications and outreach efforts with university priorities. The Associate Director supports the implementation of strategic planning goals and outcomes within a comprehensive AEO plan at the university.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related work experience in higher education administration, organizational development, talent development, adult learning, student affairs, communications, counseling, or a related field.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:
• Highly collaborative interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge and proficiency of issues within higher education, including knowledge of Equal Opportunity best practices and Title IX, Title II, Title VI and other federal legislation concerning student belonging and opportunity.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing, implementing, facilitating, and assessing successful outreach, engagement, and communications strategies that support faculty and staff professional development initiatives in a fast-paced environment, ideally in higher education settings.
• Commitment to academic excellence, intercultural awareness and creating opportunity.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced office balancing multiple projects simultaneously and willingness to work non-traditional hours and ability to work independently, be flexible, and adapt to changing situations and circumstances.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in higher education administration, organizational development, talent development, adult learning, student affairs, communications, counseling, or a related field.
• Demonstrated communications and outreach experience working with leaders and stakeholders across schools and shared service units on a university campus within an urban setting.
• Strong proficiency with digital communications platforms, social media and content management systems.
• A proven track record for advancing campus belonging initiatives.
• Knowledge of the New Orleans community and commitment to working collaboratively with our community partners.
• Experience in learning and development, talent development and/or professional development program development and implementation, especially in higher education program administration.
• Dedication to the mission of a private, high research institution with strong undergraduate and graduate/professional schools and colleges.
