QUALIFICATIONS
Education
• High school diploma or GED
• Medical terminology class completion

Experience/Skills
• Medical Records experience
• Knowledge of office operations
• Types approximately 30 CWPM
• Computer experience
• Knowledge of filing systems
• Familiar with the use office equipment
• Adapts to changes in procedures and/or workload

Required Licenses/Certifications
• N/A

Working Conditions
• Works in a clean, well-lit work environment with good ventilation

ROUTINE RESPONSIBILITIES
Behavioral Expectations
• Consistently complies with established Behavioral Expectations

Quality
• Scans paper Inpatient (IN), Observation (INO), and Same Day Care (SDC) records into the information system and accurately assigns ID for each form according to work standards
• Reviews all electronic charts for quality, e.g., legibility, completeness, etc.
• Scans all loose papers sent to the department after initial processing has been completed
• Processes requests for release of information according to hospital policies
• Maintains tickler file of orders that have been mailed for signatures to ensure safe and timely return of original medical record documents
• Processes requests for release of information according to the hospital’s policy
• Assists patients with the Health Portal via phone or in person
• Maintains confidentiality according to Sullivan County Community Hospital and HIM Department policies

Quantity
• Scans paper IN, INO, and SDC records into the information system daily according to work standards
• Documents incomplete charts for signature and/or dictation so letters can be mailed weekly

Miscellaneous Duties
• Answers telephone courteously and relays information promptly
• Performs most duties with little or no supervision
• Follows policies and procedures that contribute to the efficiency and safety of the HIM Department
• Maintains confidentiality according to Sullivan County Community Hospital and HIM Department policies
• Performs other duties when requested by the HIM Director

Full time/Day shift
80 hours/Biweekly
