Clinical Engineering Technician III — Evening Shift
Schedule: 3:30 p.m.–midnight
General Summary
Under the limited supervision of the Clinical Engineering Supervisor and/or Department Manager, performs highly skilled repair and maintenance of complex electronic patient care, monitoring, and clinical engineering equipment. Responsibilities include installations, project management, calibration, and routine maintenance of medical electronic equipment.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
Performs preventive maintenance, repair, and calibration services on complex electronic patient care equipment, clinical laboratory equipment, computerized pneumatic conveying equipment, and basic radiographic equipment in accordance with departmental standards and manufacturer operating and repair manuals.
Interprets and performs inspection procedures and documents results in accordance with Joint Commission requirements and departmental policies. Identifies potential equipment safety hazards and documents actions taken to eliminate them.
Responds to work requests, troubleshoots malfunctions, and completes repairs safely, promptly, and efficiently. Installs, repairs, and maintains complex diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including electronic and mechanical components.
Schedules third-party repairs when service needs exceed departmental expertise.
Maintains test equipment and tools in good working order. Communicates regularly with nursing, allied health, and medical staff regarding equipment operation to prevent or minimize equipment failures.
Participates in evaluations of new, rental, or demonstration biomedical equipment and recommends equipment acquisition.
Follows clinical engineering practices and departmental policies to promote efficient repair services and operations.
Assists management with maintaining departmental records, including maintenance requests, electrical safety forms, files, statistics, and technical manuals, in accordance with Joint Commission and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Assists with education on the use and operation of clinical equipment. Responds to emergency codes as trained and assigned.

Maintains the privacy and security of confidential and protected health information, using and disclosing only information necessary to perform job responsibilities.

Work Experience
Education and Experience
Associate degree or certificate in Biomedical Equipment Technology or a related field, or completion of a Military Biomedical Technology Course or equivalent technical program, required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum five years of experience installing, testing, maintaining, and repairing medical equipment in a hospital setting, with three years of experience maintaining ventilators, anesthesia machines, and monitoring systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Highly effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate with hospital staff at all levels, patients, and visitors.
Knowledge of applicable trade areas.
Strong listening and organizational skills.
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
Results-oriented approach, maturity, commitment to self-development, and integrity.
Ability to combine information to form general rules or conclusions and apply those rules to specific problems to develop logical solutions.
