Charge Nurse – Full-Time
Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission/Clinical Decision Unit
Schedule: Full-Time/Nights
Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the care and services of selected patient populations across the continuum of care. This position promotes effective utilization of healthcare resources and collaborates with patients, families, physicians, leaders, and interdisciplinary team members to achieve optimal clinical, operational, and patient experience outcomes. The role utilizes advanced nursing knowledge, critical thinking, leadership, and clinical expertise to oversee patient care activities, support staff development, manage departmental resources, and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, and applicable regulations.

Essential Functions
• Coordinates patient care activities across multiple departments, including procedural, inpatient, outpatient, anesthesia, and recovery care areas.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized plans of care based on patient assessments, physician orders, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Monitors patient progress, evaluates outcomes, and modifies plans of care as appropriate to address changing patient needs.
• Collaborates with physicians, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and ancillary departments to facilitate safe, coordinated, and efficient patient care.
• Coordinates daily schedules, staffing assignments, patient flow, and equipment availability to support operational needs.
• Prioritizes patient care activities based on clinical urgency, patient acuity, and resource availability.
• Serves as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff by providing guidance, education, and support related to patient care and procedural practices.
• Facilitates communication among interdisciplinary team members to promote continuity of care and positive patient outcomes.
• Provides leadership, direction, and oversight of support personnel and assigned staff to ensure adherence to established standards of care.
• Educates patients and families regarding treatment plans, procedures, disease management, and self-care strategies.
• Responds appropriately to emergency situations and coordinates timely interventions to promote patient stabilization.
• Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, performance improvement, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
• Supports departmental operations, staffing management, resource utilization, and fiscal stewardship.
• Assists with orientation, onboarding, competency validation, and ongoing education of team members.
• Participates in recruitment, retention, performance management, employee engagement, and professional development initiatives.
• Attends and participates in committee work, departmental projects, and leadership activities as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrated ability to assess patient conditions, evaluate interventions, and revise plans of care using critical thinking and sound clinical judgment.
• Knowledge of professional nursing principles, leadership practices, regulatory requirements, quality standards, and evidence-based practice.
• Ability to supervise, direct, mentor, and develop nursing and support staff.
• Knowledge of resource management, staffing coordination, operational planning, and fiscal accountability.
• Basic computer proficiency, including electronic medical record systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical records preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional language skills preferred.
• Ability to identify operational and patient care challenges, develop solutions, and effectively implement action plans.
• Knowledge of patient and family-centered care principles and service excellence standards.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, leaders, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals.
• Strong organizational, multitasking, conflict resolution, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, maintain confidentiality, and perform effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities, including team building, coaching, performance management, and project participation.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, integrity, compassion, and respect in all interactions.

Education
• Associate Degree in Nursing required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Experience
• Acute care hospital experience preferred.
• Leadership, charge nurse, coordinator, or supervisory experience preferred.

Licensure and Certifications
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply depending on department assignment, specialty area, patient population, facility requirements, or state regulations.

$34.04 - $63.31
