Registered Nurse – Part-Time
Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission/Float Pool
Schedule: Part-Time/Nights
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool is responsible for delivering coordinated nursing care to patients across assigned patient care units while managing related clinical activities. This position utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, compassionate, evidence-based, and cost-effective care. The RN collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure the administration of medical and nursing plans of care in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and applicable nursing practice regulations. The RN may provide direction and supervision to assigned nursing personnel and contributes to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the healthcare team.

Essential Functions
• Performs and documents accurate initial and ongoing patient assessments to evaluate patient conditions and identify healthcare needs.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Administers medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders and organizational standards.
• Monitors patient responses to treatments and medications and communicates significant findings to appropriate healthcare providers.
• Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to assigned nursing personnel to support safe, therapeutic, and quality patient care.
• Educates patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, procedures, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and self-care strategies.
• Assists physicians with bedside procedures and prepares patients for diagnostic tests, procedures, and surgeries.
• Monitors laboratory and diagnostic results, reports abnormal findings, and collaborates with providers regarding appropriate interventions.
• Provides emotional, psychological, and supportive care to patients and their families.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment through adherence to infection prevention, safety, and quality standards.
• Documents patient care activities, assessments, interventions, outcomes, and communications accurately and timely in the medical record.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives, research activities, evidence-based practice projects, and professional development programs.
• Responds effectively to emergency situations and collaborates with the healthcare team to provide timely interventions and patient stabilization.
• Floats to appropriate departments based on organizational needs, competency, licensure, certifications, and scope of practice.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrated ability to assess patient conditions, evaluate interventions, and revise plans of care using critical thinking and sound clinical judgment.
• Knowledge of professional nursing principles, standards of care, evidence-based practice, and medication administration.
• Basic computer proficiency, including electronic medical record systems, automated medication dispensing systems, and Microsoft Windows-based applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge and skill in the operation of clinical equipment, including intravenous therapy devices, central line equipment, pulse oximetry monitors, nasogastric tubes, Foley catheters, chest tube systems, hemodynamic monitoring equipment, and related patient care technologies.
• Proficient clinical, critical-thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, healthcare professionals, and team members.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development, patient rounding practices, and EKG education requirements as applicable.
• Ability to interpret EKG rhythms and findings based on assigned patient populations and departmental requirements.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities effectively.
• Ability to function as a collaborative member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Ability to float to appropriate departments based on competency, licensure, certifications, and scope of practice.
Education
• Associate Degree in Nursing required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience
• One year of acute care hospital nursing experience preferred.
Licensure and Certifications
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply depending on the assigned department, specialty area, patient population, facility, or state regulations.

Pay Range:
$34.04 - $63.31
