JOB SUMMARY:
Licensed Georgia Pharmacist. Assists with direction, establishment, and planning of the overall policies and goals for the organization's pharmacy services. Maintains contact with other department heads, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote effective drug therapy. Assists with the management of the 340B program and ensures compliance with HRSA. Assists with the management of the pharmacy staff by ensuring effective and timely recruitment, orientation, training, education, mentoring, career development, and performance review and retention efforts. Promotes medication safety throughout the organization. Assists with the development of budgets aligned with organizational and departmental objectives and monitors financial performance appropriately. Demonstrates leadership and ensures that medication management systems and pharmaceutical services meet the needs of patients and healthcare providers across the continuum of care.

GENERAL SKILLS:
• Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Additional languages preferred.
• Strong written and verbal skills.
• Basic Computer Skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
• May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.
• May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
• May be required to change from one task to another or different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
• Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
• May be scheduled as needed including overtime.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & DEMANDS:
• Have near normal hearing: Hear alarms/telephone/normal speaking voice.
• Have near normal vision: Clarity of vision (both near and far), ability to distinguish colors.
• Have good manual dexterity.
• Have good eye-hand foot coordination.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks/motion.
• Continuously within shift (67-100%): Standing, Walking.
• Frequently within shift (34-66%): Bending/Stooping, Pushing/Pulling, Lift/carry up to 20lbs, Lift/carry greater than 20 lbs. with assistance.
• Occasionally within shift (1-33%): Sitting, Climbing, Twist at waist, Lift/Carry greater than 50 lbs. with assistance, Reaching above shoulder.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
• Reviews prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy and determines formulas and ingredients needed.
• Compounds medications using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring and mixing ingredients.
• Monitors all posting onto the patient profiles in order that accuracy, drug allergies, drug interactions, duplicate therapy, rational drug therapy and incompatibilities may be realized and better patient care received.
• Checks patient medication prior to delivery to patient care areas to ascertain that the correct drug, dosage form, schedule and strength is being dispensed.
• Assists in filling prescriptions.
• Processes records of medications and supplies dispensed to patients or customers, computes charges and either enters them into the computer of forwards them to Data Processing.
• Aids in the training of Pharmacy Technician students or new employees.
• Prepares select reports and MARs.
• Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies.
• Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and QI activities.
• Provides pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly. Must be able to identify and understand that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and know to consult with the pharmacist if any doubts or questions arise.
• Maintains the Pharmaceutical Services Department in a clean and orderly manner.
• Performs other pharmacy-related duties as requested or required.
• Demonstrates ability to calculate figures and amounts relating to dosage calculations when filling various prescriptions ranging from the newborn to the elderly populations.
• Demonstrates ability to apply common sense and understand to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
• Demonstrates ability to deal with problems involving several variables in particular situations.
• Recognizes inappropriate dosing based in available dosage forms for various age groups.
• Performs assigned quality control activities on schedule.
• Performs assigned training activities successfully.
• Maintains professional, helpful and courteous relationship within the department and with other departments.
• Operates in the pharmacy in conformance with all state, federal and Georgia
• Board of Pharmacy regulations, DNV standards & 797/800 regulations
• Assures all prescription drugs and controlled substances are safe and secure within the organization
• Develops, implements and complies with written policies and procedures
• Manages Automated Dispensing Cabinets
• Responsible for completing and submitting annual inventory
• Manages pharmacy staff by ensuring effective and timely recruitment, orientation, training, mentoring, development, and performance review and retention efforts
• Develops and maintains relationships with other department heads, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes and promote effective drug therapy
• Controls and approves pharmacy employee payroll hours
• Ensures that 340B policies and procedures are being followed while filling outpatient prescriptions and in all physical inventories
• Institute and implement enhancement of quality for the department
• Assist with annual evaluations
• Supervise entire inventory management related to pharmacy
• Manages 340B program and ensures compliance with HRSA
• Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures training is obtained
• Promotes medication safety throughout the organization
• Ensures accuracy before prescriptions and medications leave the pharmacy
• Assures that statements and all billing in the outpatient and inpatient areas are accurate
• Develops budgets aligned with organizational and departmental objectives and monitors financial performance
• Demonstrates leadership
• Ensures all medication management systems and pharmaceutical services meet the needs of patients and healthcare
• Providers across the continuum of care
• Ensures that Cerner formulary pricing and database is up to date on a daily and quarterly basis

Requirements
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent.
• Graduated from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
• Current Pharmacist certification or licensure in the State of Georgia.
• Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric population obtained either in school education or subsequent training.
