ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs a combination, but not necessarily all, of the following duties:
1. Workplace Safety and Security Operations
• Support daily workplace safety and security operations at assigned SJCH locations under the direction of the Associate Director of Workplace Safety and Security.
• Conduct scheduled site rounds, safety observations, and security assessments to identify hazards, vulnerabilities, protocol gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
• Observe physical security conditions, including access points, surveillance coverage, alarm systems, lighting, building perimeters, staffing coverage, and emergency equipment, and report concerns through established channels.
• Maintain a visible, professional, and supportive presence by walking corridors, monitoring common areas and building perimeters, and engaging respectfully with patients, visitors, employees, and contracted security personnel.
• Support consistent implementation of SJCH workplace safety, security, and emergency-response procedures.

2. Crisis Prevention and De-escalation Support
• Recognize signs of escalating or disruptive behavior and apply approved verbal de-escalation, crisis-prevention, trauma-informed, and early-intervention practices within the scope of training.
• Promote CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention principles, including care, welfare, safety and security, verbal de-escalation, crisis prevention, trauma-informed approaches, and supportive crisis intervention.
• Request assistance and escalate high-risk circumstances to the Director, site leadership, emergency responders, or law enforcement according to policy and incident conditions.
• Support workplace violence prevention education, awareness, and prevention activities as assigned.

3. Contracted Security Vendor Support
• Communicate operational expectations and observed concerns to contracted security personnel within assigned authority.
• Monitor assigned post coverage, attendance, conduct, customer service, training compliance, and service observations.
• Verify assigned vendor documentation, post coverage records, and training information and promptly elevate deficiencies to the Director.
• Support follow-up regarding vendor corrective actions and service expectations as directed.

4. Patient Experience and Concierge Security Services
• Support a patient-centered, concierge-style security approach by providing directions, assistance, reassurance, and professional customer service.
• Promote dignity, respect, compassion, and trauma-informed communication during interactions with patients, visitors, employees, vendors, and community members.
• Assist with conflicts, complaints, and challenging interactions through professional communication and collaborative problem-solving within the scope of the position.
• Help maintain safe and welcoming healthcare environments across assigned locations.

5. Incident Response, Documentation, and Compliance
• Respond to workplace safety and security incidents as assigned, help stabilize the environment, preserve relevant information, and support appropriate notification and follow-up.
• Accurately document incidents, observations, actions taken, witness information, and follow-up needs in required reports and systems within established timelines.
• Assist the Director with fact-finding, incident reviews, workplace violence prevention inquiries, corrective-action tracking, and trend identification while maintaining confidentiality.
• Support implementation of the Workplace Violence Prevention Plan and related policies, training, reporting, recordkeeping, and prevention activities.
• Participate in multidisciplinary response and follow-up activities as assigned.

6. Training, Emergency Preparedness, and Continuous Improvement
• Help coordinate workplace safety, security, de-escalation, workplace violence prevention, and emergency-preparedness training.
• Maintain rosters, completion records, certification documentation, assessment records, departmental logs, and training materials as assigned.
• Participate in drills, exercises, emergency response activities, after-action reviews, and improvement-plan follow-up.
• Collect and organize information for dashboards, monthly reports, audits, inspections, metrics, and leadership updates as directed.
• Support review and maintenance of security procedures, post orders, emergency plans, site assessment records, and departmental documentation.
• Collaborate with Facilities, clinic leadership, Human Resources, Risk Management, Compliance, Behavioral Health, Information Technology, and other departments on assigned safety and security matters.
• Maintain regular communication with the Director regarding incidents, risks, assigned priorities, corrective actions, and operational changes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education :
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience :
• Two (2) or more years of experience in security operations, public safety, healthcare security, facilities operations, emergency preparedness, behavioral health, social services, or another public-facing service environment preferred.
• Experience preparing incident reports, conducting site observations, supporting investigations, or coordinating contracted security services preferred.
• Experience in a healthcare, community health, Federally Qualified Health Center, behavioral health, or high-need service setting preferred.

Certifications and Training :
• CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training preferred, or ability to complete assigned crisis-prevention and de-escalation training after hire.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or ability to obtain as assigned.
• Mental Health First Aid Instructor Certification preferred or obtained within the first 60 to 90 days of onboarding.
• Trauma-Informed Care Certification preferred or obtained within the first 60 to 90 days of onboarding.

Additional Requirements:
• Ability to professionally engage with patients, visitors, employees, vendors, and contracted security personnel in routine and challenging situations.
• Working knowledge of workplace safety, physical security, incident response, access control, surveillance, de-escalation, and emergency preparedness principles.
• Ability to recognize hazards and escalating behavior, take appropriate action within training and authority, and promptly notify supervision.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and customer service skills, including the ability to prepare clear and objective incident documentation.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and use sound judgment when handling sensitive matters.
• Ability to work independently, follow direction, manage competing priorities, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and related software systems.
• Ability to travel between SJCH locations in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties and adjust work hours as operationally needed.
• Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.
• Reliable transportation to travel within La County, Riverside County and the Inland Empire.
