Student Nurse Intern

Job description

UConn Health Waterbury Hospital is seeking junior or senior nursing students enrolled in an accredited RN program for a three‑week, hands‑on internship in a select nursing unit. Paired with an experienced RN preceptor, interns will perform most nursing skills under direct supervision, gaining real‑world experience across specialty areas. Preference is given to senior students. The program runs from December 28, 2026 through January 16, 2027.
Salary range: $20-22/hr
• Provide direct patient care under RN preceptor supervision
• Perform nursing assessments and vital sign collection
• Administer medications and treatments as delegated
• Document patient information accurately in the electronic health record
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team
• Participate in care planning and patient education
• Respond promptly to patient needs and safety concerns
• Follow infection control and safety protocols
• Attend daily debriefings and educational sessions
• Current enrollment as a junior or senior in an accredited RN program
• Eligibility to practice as a student nurse in the state of Connecticut
• Up‑to‑date immunizations and health screenings
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Ability to commit to the full 3‑week schedule (12/28/2026 – 01/16/2027)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Basic competency in nursing fundamentals and clinical skills
• US citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States
• Preference given to senior nursing students
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast‑paced med‑surg environment
