The Greater Manchester Region has approximately 2,500 employees. It includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249-bed community hospital, Rockville General, a campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 102-bed facility, a large multispecialty provider group and visiting nurse services. The Greater Manchester Region serves a region of 300,000 people in 19 towns.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for de-contamination, processing, assembling and sterilizing instruments and equipment. Responsible for the disinfection and restocking of Isolation, Emergency Carts and other patient care equipment. Works within the guidelines for infection control, JCAHO, OSHA and AAMI to assure sterility of supplies, to provide and maintain necessary levels. Provides leadership and expertise to staff members in the absence of Management. Communicate efficiently with staff. Reports to Sterile Processing Manager.
COMPETENCIES:
• On an on-going basis the incumbent must obtain the mandatory number of continued educational units (CEU’s) needed to maintain the currency of certification.
• Requires advanced and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of sterile processing principles.
• Requires good problem-solving techniques.
• Personal computer skill and experience is desirable but not required.
• Must be able to read, write and speak clearly using the English language.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• Certification in Sterile Processing through a nationally accredited central service organization such as the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Healthcare & Sterile Processing Association (IAHCSMM) is required. (CRCST or CBSPD accepted.)
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, maintain a driving record free of any violations and pass a safe driving educational program upon hire and annually thereafter in order to participate in the Fleet Vehicle Program .

EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Sterile Processing Technician I.
