Park Nicollet is hiring a Security Officer at Methodist Hospital. The primary role and responsibility of this position is to protect people, property, information, and the reputation of Park Nicollet Health Services. This position will represent Park Nicollet Health Services, performing duties in a courteous and professional manner that conveys a positive image of the organization and that fosters cooperation and support with staff, patients, visitors, and external agencies.
This position will respond to a wide variety of routine public service and emergency support calls requiring various problem-solving techniques, judgment, verbal de-escalation, and appropriate use of force.
This position requires the ability to independently manage work, completing the duties outlined in this job description and other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
One or more of the following educational or experience requirements:
2 or 4-year degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice or currently in a degree program
Previous experience in healthcare security.
Previous law enforcement or public safety experience
Previous customer service
Military experience as applicable
Required Courses
Successful completion of the New Officer 25-day Training Program, including:
Departmental Verbal De-escalation Training
Departmental Defensive Tactics Training
Required within 12 months of hire:
Departmental Chemical Irritant Training
Departmental Electronic Incapacitation Device Training (EID)
FEMA ICS 100 (Introduction to the Incident Command System)
FEMA ICS 200 (Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents)
FEMA ICS 700 (National Incident Management System Introduction)
FEMA ICS 906 (Workplace Security Awareness)
FEMA ICS 907 (Active Shooter-What You Can Do)
Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
FBI/BCA background check required upon hire. Approval for continued employment is dependent on this background result.
Must possess and maintain a current and valid Minnesota Driver’s License or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong written and interpersonal communication skills required.
Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
Must be able to operate a personal computer utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, e-mail, and proprietary applications.
Must be able to effectively understand and operate push-to-talk two-way radio devices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
(20%) – Accurately and promptly complete all required documentation to include daily events logs, incident reports, and other forms or documents as assigned.
(15%) – Patrol interior and exterior areas of properties where assigned by vehicle and/or on foot according to SOP’s and situational needs.
(15%) – Promptly respond to escalating behavioral and conflict events, assuring for the care, welfare, safety, and security of all involved.
(5%) – Promptly coordinate response to internal and external situations impacting life safety, facility infrastructure, and business continuity; initiating and utilizing the Incident Command System (ICS) to ensure appropriate organizational leaders are notified and assigned roles as these situations demand.
(5%) – Investigate crimes, traffic accidents, suspicious incidents, and other calls for service, gathering evidence and documenting information, and assisting in follow-up investigations as assigned.
(5%) – Address and document unusual or unsafe conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards, including stopping work to ensure staff, patient, visitor, and contractor safety.
(5%) – Restrict access to and identify persons with no business on property.
(5%) – Enforce parking guidelines and direct traffic to assist motorists.
(5%) – Process lost and found property, patient valuables, contraband, and weapons.
(5%) – Participate in daily shift briefings and department training.
(5%) – Be flexible with regard to scheduled hours to meet business needs.
(Ongoing) – Perform other duties as assigned.
