Research Fellow -PC - Dermatology - Wyles lab
- Rochester, MN
Job description
The Mayo Clinic Center for Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery (CAMS) invites applications for a highly competitive, 12-month postdoctoral research fellowship in aesthetic medicine and healthy longevity. This interdisciplinary program integrates clinical and translational research, regenerative science, skin aging biology, and structured multidisciplinary clinical observation.
Under the direction of Saranya Wyles, MD, PhD, Fellowship Director, and Sara Bonnes, MD, Associate Program Director, the fellow will lead research evaluating emerging technologies, procedures, therapeutics, biomarkers, or care models.
Research opportunities span skin rejuvenation, tissue repair, regenerative dermatology, and the role of aesthetic interventions in supporting patients affected by serious and complex disease.
The fellowship combines protected research time, individualized mentorship, and observational experiences across CAMS and the Healthy Longevity Clinic. The fellow will be expected to execute an IRB-approved research project, contribute to grant development, submit at least one peer-reviewed manuscript, and present findings to executive leadership.
This position is designed for candidates with substantial prior research training who seek advanced preparation for an academic, physician-scientist, or translational research career. Applicants must demonstrate readiness to assume meaningful responsibility for study development, execution, analysis, and scientific dissemination.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in:
• Clinical and translational research: Study design, protocol development, clinical trial coordination or execution, and interpretation of research findings.
• Scientific writing and productivity: A strong record of peer-reviewed publications, preferably including first-author manuscripts, and experience preparing scientific abstracts and presentations.
• Grant development: Contributions to competitive grant applications, including specific aims, research strategy, and supporting scientific rationale.
• Regulatory and research operations: Familiarity with IRB submissions, Good Clinical Practice, informed consent, human subjects protection, and research data integrity
• Data analysis and outcomes assessment: Experience working with clinical datasets, biostatistical teams, imaging, biomarkers, or patient-reported outcomes.
• Relevant scientific disciplines: Aesthetic medicine, dermatology, surgery, aging biology, regenerative medicine, or related translational fields.
• Independent and collaborative scholarship: Ability to advance projects with increasing independence, manage competing priorities, and collaborate effectively across specialties.
A Research Fellow position in Life Sciences (LS) will require knowledge of either clinical-based research or laboratory-based research often obtained from a postdoctoral program.
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Upon background check and CCATS Executive Committee approval, Research Fellow may have patient/research subject contact directly relating to and incidental to the original research program. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D, MD, MD-Ph.D, or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant discipline. Candidates with a Ph.D or combined MD-Ph.D are preferred. MD applicants should demonstrate substantial formal research training and a sustained record of scholarly productivity.
Prior research experience is required, supported by peer-reviewed publications and clearly documented contributions to research projects. Competitive applicants will demonstrate strong scientific writing, analytical skills, and a clear commitment to an academic or research-focused career. Interest in aesthetic medicine alone is insufficient without demonstrated research accomplishments.
Research Fellow appointments are intended for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere. This is a research training appointment with structured clinical observation; any patient or research-subject contact is subject to applicable institutional approvals.
