Job Description:
Registered Nurse – Full-Time
Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission/Float Pool
Schedule: Full-Time |Days
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool is responsible for delivering coordinated nursing care to patients across assigned patient care units while managing related clinical activities. This position utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, compassionate, evidence-based, and cost-effective care. The RN collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality patient outcomes and may provide direction and supervision to assigned nursing personnel. Care is delivered in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable state nurse practice acts.
Sign-On Bonus: $10,000 for eligible candidates
Float Pool Differential: Additional $5.00 per hour

Essential Functions
• Performs and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing patient assessments to evaluate patient conditions, identify healthcare needs, and monitor treatment outcomes.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Administers medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions accurately and safely in accordance with provider orders and organizational policies.
• Monitors patient responses to medications and treatments, identifies changes in condition, and communicates findings to appropriate healthcare providers.
• Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to assigned nursing personnel to ensure safe, therapeutic, and high-quality patient care.
• Educates patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, procedures, treatment plans, and self-care strategies to promote understanding and compliance.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Collaborates with physicians, ancillary departments, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and support positive patient outcomes.
• Supports compliance with infection prevention practices, patient safety standards, quality initiatives, and regulatory requirements.
• Floats to appropriate departments based on patient care needs, competencies, licensure, certifications, and organizational requirements.
• Participates in professional development, quality improvement activities, and organizational initiatives.
• Contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of nursing services and healthcare operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrated ability to assess patient conditions, evaluate interventions, and modify care plans using critical thinking and sound clinical judgment.
• Knowledge of professional nursing principles, patient care standards, and evidence-based practices.
• Ability to use electronic medical records, automated medication dispensing systems, and healthcare technology effectively.
• Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Windows-based applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge and skill in the use of clinical equipment including IV therapy devices, central line equipment, pulse oximetry, nasogastric tubes, Foley catheters, chest tube systems, and hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing patient care environments and work effectively across multiple units.

Education
• Associate Degree in Nursing required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Experience
• One year of acute care hospital nursing experience preferred.

Licensure and Certifications
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply depending on assigned department, patient population, specialty area, or state regulations.

Pay Range:
$34.04 - $63.31
