The RN Certified Lactation Consultant will play a vital role in our Perinatal Outreach team, offering expert guidance and support to new mothers and their infants. This position requires a compassionate and knowledgeable professional who can provide evidence-based lactation care and education to promote successful breastfeeding journeys.
• Provide comprehensive lactation support and counseling to mothers and their infants, including guidance on breastfeeding techniques, positioning, and latch.
• Offer education and resources to new parents, empowering them with the knowledge and skills to establish and maintain successful breastfeeding practices.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure a seamless and integrated approach to lactation care, including coordination with NICU specialists.
• Conduct thorough assessments and develop individualized care plans for each mother-infant dyad, considering their unique needs and challenges.
• Monitor and evaluate the progress of breastfeeding, providing ongoing support and adjustments as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Stay updated with the latest research and evidence-based practices in lactation consulting, incorporating new knowledge into patient care.
• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of lactation consultations, ensuring compliance with medical records standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the continuous enhancement of lactation services within the department.
• Foster a supportive and inclusive environment, promoting cultural sensitivity and empathy in lactation care.
• Engage in professional development activities to enhance skills and stay abreast of advancements in the field.
• Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing, with a valid and current license to practice in the state.
• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification, demonstrating expertise in lactation consulting.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a lactation consultant, with a preference for NICU lactation experience.
• Excellent clinical skills and a strong understanding of breastfeeding physiology and techniques.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and provide empathetic support to patients.
• Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively, ensuring timely and efficient patient care.
• Proficiency in using electronic health records and relevant software for documentation and patient management.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as per the department's coverage requirements.
• CPR certification or willingness to obtain it upon hiring.
• A passion for promoting breastfeeding and supporting new mothers in their breastfeeding journey.
