SUMMARY: The Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) provides coaching, mentoring, and peer support for Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) program clients. The RSS serves to motivate clients to engage in and remain in treatment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties are subject to accommodation in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Participate in daily drop-in operations including opening and closing procedures to help ensure mobile unit and program spaces are clean, safe, and welcoming
• Conduct street-level outreach activities and engagement for clients in need of MAT services
• Provide safer sex and safer drug use education and other health related resources and tools
• Interview clients and collect grant data
• Keep accurate, consistent, and complete client records and data on all program activities; provide program coordinator with reports in a timely manner
• In a manner consistent with Harm Reduction principles, provide substance use and sexual risk screenings in collaboration with clinical staff
• Mentor and provide support to MAT program clients and connect them with recovery resources
• Assist with Narcan distribution and other approved harm reduction materials
• Provide referrals and connect clients with medical care and psychosocial services as well as other community resources
• Attend staff meetings, supervision and trainings as required
• All other duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements
Qualifications:
• Certified Peer Support & Recovery Professional (CPSRP) in Connecticut
• Demonstrated current knowledge of HIV/AIDS, STDs, hepatitis and other blood-borne infections
• Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information in a culturally appropriate, consistently respectful, and non-judgmental manner
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Self-directed, motivated, and flexible with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education and/or Experience:
Required:
• High School diploma or GED
• Lived experience, with at least 3 years in recovery
• At least two years of health, social service, or direct experience working with substance use disorders and/or co-occurring populations
• Experience utilizing Electronic Health Record
• Experience with data collection and entry
Preferred:
• Fluency in a second language

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Generally, the working conditions are good with little or no exposure to extremes in health, safety hazards and/or hazardous materials. This person must have the ability to travel as required to work with staff.

In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The compensation of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
