I. Position Summary: The Authorization Registration Clerk projects the professional, caring image while performing all job duties, including but not limited to obtaining completed orders and preauthorization's, scheduling patients, and registering patients for admission or outpatient procedures. Responsible for ensuring that all phases of the admission process (interviews, pre-admissions, precertification and collection of pre-pays) are completed in an accurate and timely manner to guarantee: (1) that maximum collection is achieved; (2) preclude any claims denials; and (3) that all processes are conducted according to state, federal, and hospital regulations. Provides patients with directions (that can be clearly understood) to departments where treatment will be rendered or personally transports patients if needed. Under supervision of a licensed staff member, performs a variety of duties to support the PM&R functions related to cleanliness, maintenance/upkeep, and equipment management, activities to ensure processes are meeting the intended goal/outcome, to identify opportunities for improvement, and to be accountable for the quality of care provided in their respective area.

• Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A
• Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in hospital setting is preferred.
• Experience: Prior experience working in a medical facility admitting office. Experience in interacting with customers/patients in a service oriented setting is a must. Previous data entry experience is helpful.
• Special qualifications: Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Basic clerical skills; minimum speed 20 wpm with no errors. Basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax). Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to work well under pressure.
III. Degree of Supervision Required: Minimum; incumbent must be able to work very well on their own.
IV. Ages of Patients Served: This position has no responsibility to treat or care for patients.
This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.

VI. Physical Requirements: Constant: sitting, seeing, hearing, and finger dexterity. Constant concentration in fine details with frequent interruptions. Occasional: pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, using arm, leg and back muscles may be required. May be expected to lift less than 30 pounds. V. Core Competencies -- Annual Review
The knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for the age of the patient will be demonstrated upon employment for all topics/items and at least annually for topics/items that are deemed to be high risk, low volume or new. This will generally be established by observation and demonstration; however, seminar/educational program attendance written/verbal tests or other instructional methods approved by Department Director may also be used to determine competency. The Department Manager, Clinical Supervisor or their designees will serve as preceptors for observation and demonstrations. Criteria for evaluation may be referenced in departmental policies/procedures, standards of care and references/text.
