Expected pay for this position is $19.35 - $21.78/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.
Overview
This position will primarily be working at St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota. This position will also provide minimal coverage at other locations in the area. Must be able to commit to weekend rotation at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Peru.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in ensuring medications are promptly, accurately and safely dispensed, delivered, charged and credited. Prepares and labels medications to match orders. Maintains records related to drug use and charges. This position requires the Technician to be proficient in both dispensing oral medications and in preparation of I.V. solutions. Duties may vary by assigned area or shift. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served, including neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric. Work involves standing, lifting and walking continually while in the process of performing duties.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: At least 16 years of age and is attending or graduated from an accredited high school or comparable school or educational institution or GED
Within 90 days of hire, must enroll in an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program through Guild and complete at least 25% of the didactic coursework. Within 2 years of hire or license (whichever comes first), must complete the program. Alternatively, may meet this requirement by providing documentation of one of the following: Completion of a pharmacy technician training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Verification, signed by a pharmacist-in-charge from previous employment, of at least 500 hours of equivalent pharmacy technician work experience covering practice areas required by the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act.
Licenses/Certifications: Must be a Registered Pharmacy Technician License validated by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) validated by PTCB or National Healthcareer Certification within 2 years of initial licensure or within 2 years of hire, if the original date of Illinois Pharmacy Technician license is prior to January 1, 2008.
Other skills/knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: At least 18 years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent 1 year pharmacy experience.
Other requirements/information: Demonstrates ability to perform and apply arithmetic calculations.
