What you'll do
Specialty Pharmacy Technician
Performs pharmacy technician duties within the Specialty Pharmacy department under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician supports the full medication-use cycle for specialty patients, including patient intake, insurance navigation and billing, prescription processing, order fulfillment, and shipping/distribution of refrigerated and non-refrigerated medications. The technician provides excellent customer service to patients, caregivers, and provider offices; assists patients in identifying and accessing copayment and financial assistance resources; and maintains accurate, up-to-date patient records within the pharmacy's computerized system (CPR+). The technician collaborates closely with pharmacists, prescriber offices, and payers to resolve patient-specific issues, and works in accordance with departmental policy, accreditation standards (e.g., URAC), and applicable local, state, and federal law to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality care for specialty pharmacy patients.
• Initiates the patient intake process, including gathering and accurately entering detailed information about the patient and the patient's prescription into the pharmacy's computerized system (CPR+).
• Navigates insurance plans and accurately bills the appropriate insurance, including coordination of benefits for patients with more than one payer, understanding overrides and codes, and performing manual billing as needed.
• Stays informed on current availability of, and assists patients with, copayment assistance methods, including copayment cards or programs, foundation support, and grant support.
• Maintains and updates records of the patient's health, allergies, demographic information, and insurance information in the computerized pharmacy system.
• Collaborates with prescriber offices to resolve patient-specific issues, including prior authorizations, missing information, and clinical clarifications.
• Processes prescriptions for review by a pharmacist, ensuring all required information is complete and accurate.
• Assists in the verification of prescription authenticity.
• Refers any clinical questions regarding prescriptions, drug information, or health matters to a pharmacist.
• Remains knowledgeable about new and discontinued medications.
• Works under the supervision of a registered pharmacist while staying current with local, state, and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
• Prepares medication orders for final review by a pharmacist.
• Responsible for the proper and accurate filling of each individual order.
• Admixes medications under pharmacist supervision.
• Maintains and keeps reasonable production levels as determined by supervisor.
• Handles hazardous medications in accordance with departmental policies and USP <800> standards.
• Prepares refrigerated and non-refrigerated shipments for UPS and FedEx on a daily basis.
• Assists in the preparation of packaging for shipments, ensuring proper handling of temperature-sensitive medications.
• Checks in orders and ensures appropriate stocking levels are maintained in the pharmacy.
• Assists with purchasing, receiving, and inventory control functions to ensure adequate and appropriately stored medication supply.
• Monitors for expired and/or unusable medications, following departmental policy for removal, waste, and segregation.
• Identifies and escalates non-conformities and occurrences in the pharmacy department.
• Consistently and fully participates in departmental quality assurance and quality improvement processes, including URAC and other accreditation requirements.
• Responsible for completing all mandatory and regulatory training programs in a timely manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
What we need from you
Education:
• High School Diploma or GED, preferred
Experience:
• Minimum 1 year Pharmacy Technician experience, preferred
• Successful mastery of required tasks and operations as taught and mentored by pharmacy staff by the end of six months of employment
• Progression to Technician II required within 6 months, if required by primary location

Physical Requirements:
• Heavy Work - Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs, of force constantly to move objects
• Frequent balancing, climbing, crouching, typing/clerical/dexterity, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking, and fit testing.
Hazards:
• Occasional bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure
Working conditions:
• Occasional extreme temperatures, noise
Travel:
• The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis

Pay Range
Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. The above compensation range represents a good faith belief of the compensation range by Bassett Healthcare Network, and its entities and affiliates, at the time of this posting or advertisement.
Pay Range Minimum:
USD $18.02/Hr.
Pay Range Maximum:
USD $27.03/Hr.
