Responsibilities
• Participates in cardiac surgery as a clinical perfusionist.
• Assembles, primes, recirculates and tests the ECT circuit prior to initiation df CPB; consults with surgeon regarding modification of the circuit.
• Monitors and observes the operation of the heart lung bypass machine and the patient's physiologic parameters; makes adjustments as necessary to maintain adequate perfusion.
• Obtains blood specimens as required.
• Disassembles and cleans the perfusion equipment.
• Directs and/or assists in the set up, cleaning, sterilization, testing and operation of the physiologic monitoring instrumentation and other related equipment used in cardiac surgery and associated procedures i.e., cell saver, intra-aortic balloon pump, ventricular assists and ECMO.
• Assist with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
• Maintains department records, reports and files as required.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
• All administrative duties and others as assigned by the Director of Circulation Technology.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Circulation Technology.
• Maintains and operates laser equipment in the Operating Room.
• Analyzes permanent pacemaker leads and generators during implantation.
• Acts as instructor for departmental and extra-departmental personnel. Clinical instructor for all scheduled clinical rotations of students enrolled at the
• University of South Alabama.
• Orients new personnel as assigned.
• Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
• Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
• Regular and prompt attendance
• Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
• Related duties as assigned

Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in circulation technology from an accredited institution Required
• CLPRF - Clinical Perfusionists - Current certification as a Circulation Technologist with the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusionists or the International Board of Circulation Technologists or attainment within two years of employment. Required
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
• Candidates must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact with surgeons, nursing staff, and other healthcare team members. Candidates should also be self-motivated and value team collaboration, professional development, and maintain a diligent work ethic.
