The Department of Radiology is looking for a Diagnostic Medical Physicist to work with the Chief Physicist to maintain the Quality Assurance (QA) program for all diagnostic imaging equipment at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Key areas of focus will be support of radiation producing machines QA program, dose reduction strategies, design and shielding requirements of radiation installations and improvement of image quality in all areas of diagnostic radiology. Responsibilities will include maintaining equipment QA program to include testing and calibration for all radiological imaging modalities consistent with NYC- Bureau of Radiological Health, guidelines Article 175. Also, compliance QA testing as required by the Joint Commission, ACR accreditation and other Federal and state regulatory agencies. Participate in Acceptance testing and radiation safety surveys of new imaging equipment. Perform shielding calculations and patient dose calculations as necessary. Participate in departmental committees and workgroups.
Responsibilities
• Oversee and maintain the comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) program for all diagnostic imaging equipment, ensuring compliance with city, state, federal, and accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission and American College of Radiology).
• Perform acceptance testing, calibration, and routine performance evaluations for all imaging modalities to ensure optimal functionality, safety, and image quality.
• Lead initiatives focused on image quality optimization and radiation dose reduction, supporting high-quality, patient-centered imaging.
• Conduct patient dose assessments, protocol optimization, and performance analysis across all diagnostic imaging modalities.
• Perform shielding design calculations and evaluations for new installations, upgrades, and facility modifications.
• Conduct equipment performance testing and compliance evaluations in accordance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Participate in equipment selection, installation, and commissioning, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and safety standards.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve medical physics policies, procedures, and QA documentation.
• Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, and operational leadership to standardize imaging protocols and improve workflow efficiency.
• Provide technical expertise and consultation on imaging systems, image quality, and equipment performance issues.
• Participate in departmental and institutional committees and workgroups, contributing to quality, safety, and operational initiatives.
• Support clinical research activities, including protocol development, imaging optimization, and technical evaluation of new technologies.
• Provide education and training to radiology residents, medical students, technologists, and junior physicists in diagnostic imaging physics.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for regulatory compliance related to diagnostic imaging equipment and accreditation requirements.
• Maintain documentation and records required for regulatory inspections, audits, and accreditation processes.
• Assist in data analysis and reporting related to imaging performance, utilization, and quality metrics.
• Support continuous quality improvement initiatives, including identification of performance gaps and implementation of corrective actions.
• Contribute to the evaluation and integration of new imaging technologies, ensuring alignment with departmental and institutional goals.
• Perform additional technical and administrative responsibilities as assigned to support departmental operations and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
• Graduate degree in medical physics from a CAMPEP approved institution
• At least 5 years of clinical experience and ABR certification in Diagnostic Physics. Prior experience with O-arm, mini CT and Dental cone beam CT QA is a plus. Medical physics teaching experience is also desired.
• Candidate must be licensed as a Medical Physicist in NY State and experienced in the ACR accreditation process for various imaging modalities. Familiarity with NYC and NY State regulations for radiation producing equipment is required.

Compensation
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $125 - $125 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
