Job Description:
The Senior Analyst - Operational Performance & Improvement provides advanced analytical, benchmarking, and continuous improvement expertise across John Muir Health. The role transforms complex healthcare data into actionable insights by developing reports, dashboards, scorecards, and comparative analyses that identify trends, risks, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities. The Senior Analyst serves as a subject matter expert in healthcare analytics, operational benchmarking, performance measurement, labor productivity, data mining, report development, and improvement analytics. Working collaboratively with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders, the Senior Analyst supports informed decision-making, improvement initiatives, and the evaluation of sustained results. This position reports to the Director of Continuous Performance Improvement.
Education/Experience/Skills Requirements:
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Industrial Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Information Systems, Health Informatics, or related field.
Experience
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare analytics, clinical analytics, decision support, quality analytics, operational finance, business intelligence, performance improvement, operational excellence, or related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Advanced healthcare data mining, analytical, quantitative, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong knowledge of clinical, operational, quality, safety, workforce, and financial performance measurement.
• Advanced report-writing and data-storytelling skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
• Proficiency with Power BI, Tableau, or comparable BI platforms.
• Experience with SQL, relational databases, enterprise data warehouses, or comparable querying tools.
• Experience extracting and analyzing information from EHR and healthcare clinical/procedural systems.
• Experience with Epic, Workday, Vizient, financial systems, quality databases, or comparable platforms preferred.
• Ability to integrate and reconcile complex information from multiple data sources.
• Ability to identify trends, variation, outliers, relationships, risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Ability to translate complex findings into actionable recommendations for leaders.
• Knowledge of Lean, structured problem solving, standard work, visual management, root cause analysis, value stream mapping, 5S, and Kaizen.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, consulting, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to independently manage complex analyses and multiple priorities.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships across clinical, operational, financial, technical, and administrative functions.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in a related field.
• Five (5) or more years of relevant healthcare analytical or performance improvement experience.
• Experience within a hospital, health system, medical group, or other complex healthcare organization.
• Experience mining EHR, clinical, procedural, quality, operational, and financial databases.
• Experience with healthcare benchmarking platforms, including Vizient ODB, ActionOI, or comparable databases.
• Experience with healthcare labor productivity and units-of-service methodology.
• Experience supporting Lean, Kaizen, Kata, Six Sigma, or structured performance improvement.
• Lean or Lean Six Sigma certification; Certified Analytics Professional, HFMA, Power BI/Tableau, project management, performance improvement, or comparable certification

Exempt Days (Mon-Fri) (United States of America)
Pay Range:
$61.14 - $91.69
Hourly
Offer amounts are based on demonstrated/relevant experience and/or licensure.
Pay will be adjusted to the local market if hired outside of the Bay Area.
Note: Positions at JMH which are exempt (not eligible for overtime) under the level of Manager are listed as hourly for compensation purposes on this posting. The work shift will contain the word ‘exempt’ on it.
