The Special Procedure Tech performs specific and specialized duties pertaining to diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures as well as CT (if applicable) which require use of independent judgment, initiative, and specialized knowledge of computerized tomography systems. Acts as the clinical “expert” for modality at all locations where exams are performed. Acts as a liaison between front line staff and management for workflow and safety concerns. Oversees with day-to-day operations to ensure the department runs smoothly and efficiently, including patient and technologist schedules. Responsibilities include patient safety, quality, maintaining regulatory requirements and department workflow. Performs all functions of the modality within the scope of licensing requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
• Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology education program
• ARRT registration required
• New York State license of Radiologic Technology required with injection certification
• Interventional Radiology experience preferred but not required
• Current Basic Life Support (CPR) certification
• Obtain Vascular Interventions (VI) certification within 24 months of hire
• Minimum of two years of experience in modality.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skill.
• Ability to work in a team environment and matrix environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position is located indoors under normal working conditions. Should be able to push/pull 300 lb., lift/move 25 lb. from floor to table, be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a key board, writing and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to sit at a computer terminal or work station for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat, stand and walk for a reasonable length of time and distance.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
• Ability to function in a team environment
• Works collaboratively with the other Special Procedure Technologists
• Works in conjunction with the Associate Nursing Director as necessary to handle scheduling or protocol changes.
• Able to understand and perform diagnostic/interventional fluoroscopic procedures and bedside non-radiographic procedures
• Operates specialized imaging equipment (fluoroscopy and/or CT) to produce clinical diagnostic images, as directed by physicians.
• (If applicable) performs CT scan studies and Special Procedures of anatomical areas as ordered/directed, according to established standards and procedures.
• Operate all radiographic imaging equipment associated with Special Procedures, Computed Tomography, including but not limited to monitors, injectors, scanners.
• Prepare IV Contrast Power injectors.
• Administers Contrast Media under direct supervision of physician or provider as required
• Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy, positioning and imaging techniques.
• Collaborates with RN on properly and accurately screen patients for (Labwork and appropriate values)
• Responsible for On-call rotation
• Track, scan, verify studies and complete all required paperwork associated with such.
• Monitor PACS for Problem Studies and Call Reports as measure of default when dedicated person unable.
• Collaborate with department Inventory Control Coordinator to order, monitor and track department specific inventory
• Develop relations with vendors for support
• Assist in staff scheduling process to maintain day to day operations
• Work collaboratively with Procedure Charge Entry Specialist to optimize accurate procedure charges and work with billing/coding departments to resolve discrepancies
• Will assist in performing general Interventional Radiology duties including, but not limited to (i.e. stocking rooms, organizing procedure rooms, assist in Pre/Post, rotating stock)
• Document on requisition appropriate needed information
• Prep patient for diagnostic/interventional imaging exam.
• Review physician notes as to why exam is being performed.
• Provide education to patients regarding procedures.
• Utilize lead shielding as necessary for patient and staff.
• Oversee the daily operations/functions of specific modality
• Assists with scheduling equipment maintenance, repairs and upgrades
• Assists in patient scheduling and patient throughput
• Assist Management in maintaining appropriate staffing levels
• Assists in recruitment of positions

Salary Range: $38.59-$57.89 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
