Location: UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital
1451 El Camino Real, The Villages, FL 32159
Schedule: Nights | 3x12s or 4x10s hour shifts:
• 3x 12-hour shifts (7:00pm - 7:30am)
• 4 x 10-hour shifts (9:00pm - 7:30am)

Employment Type: Full-Time
• Every other weekend Scheduling is flexible within operational needs.
• Rotating holidays and hurricane/emergency team assignments are required.

About the role
You'll be the lead technologist on night shift, guiding a team of 5–7 MLS/MLTs and lab assistants. You'll still work the bench across core lab departments, and you'll also keep the shift running smoothly, including the morning draw. You'll work closely with lab leadership, physicians, and nursing staff.
Responsibilities
What you'll do
• Perform and review testing in hematology, immunohematology, chemistry, and microbiology/serology
• Oversee night-shift workflow, reassigning staff as needed to meet departmental goals and handle STAT priorities
• Partner with the lab assistant shift supervisor on pre-analytical and AM draw issues. When no supervisor is on shift, you'll direct collections and work with processing so draws are completed on time
• Review QC, troubleshoot instrument and QC failures, and document corrective actions
• Act as the on-shift point of contact for instrument or LIS problems: escalate to the vendor or IT, then hand off to the supervisor the next day
• Serve as the liaison between day and night shifts to keep processes standardized, make sure STAT and routine testing is completed accurately, and escalate when needed
• Train and competency-assess new employees and students
• Write and review procedures; support CAP/TJC inspection readiness
• Serve as the lab's point of contact for physicians and nursing on result questions and specimen issues

Qualifications
What you'll need
• Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist (TN) license in hematology, immunohematology, chemistry, and microbiology/serology
• National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist through ASCP, AMT, AAB or an equivalent certifying agency, or eligible to obtain within 12 months of hire
• Bachelor's degree in MLS/MT or a chemical, physical, or biological science with 2 years of clinical lab experience, or an associate's degree with 4 years of experience
• Generalist bench experience across the core lab

Nice to have (not required)
• Epic Beaker, navify, or WellSky experience
• Lead, charge, or training experience
