Inpatient Solid Tumor Nurse Practitioner
MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking a qualified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) to join our inpatient Solid Tumor Oncology team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
As part of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, our oncology team provides specialized care for patients with a broad range of solid tumor malignancies. The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with medical oncologists, fellows, residents, nursing, pharmacy, case management, palliative care, and other multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive inpatient care for patients throughout their cancer treatment journey.
This position is full-time (1.0 FTE) and primarily dedicated to the inpatient setting. The ACNP will work closely with the attending medical oncologist, fellows, residents, and interdisciplinary care team to manage hospitalized oncology patients, participate in daily rounds, coordinate diagnostic and treatment plans, respond to changes in clinical status, and facilitate safe and timely transitions of care.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing medically complex oncology patients and will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide comprehensive inpatient care for patients with solid tumor malignancies.
• Perform daily patient evaluations and participate in multidisciplinary rounds with the attending physicians, fellows, residents, and the broader care team.
• Collaborate with fellows and residents in the development and execution of diagnostic and treatment plans, while supporting continuity and coordination of care throughout the hospitalization.
• Develop and implement diagnostic and treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician.
• Manage symptoms, treatment-related toxicities, and common oncologic complications and emergencies.
• Order and interpret appropriate laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic studies.
• Coordinate consultations and collaborate with nursing, pharmacy, palliative care, case management, social work, and other specialties.
• Support the administration and monitoring of systemic anticancer therapies when appropriate.
• Perform admission histories and physicals, daily progress assessments, medication reconciliation, and discharge planning.
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, symptom management, and follow-up care.
• Facilitate communication and continuity between the inpatient team and patients' outpatient oncology providers.
• Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough clinical documentation.
• Participate in quality improvement and other initiatives supporting the inpatient oncology program.

Qualifications:
• Completion and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current or eligible Nurse Practitioner licensure in the District of Columbia.
• Current CPR/BLS certification required.
• Previous experience in oncology, hematology/oncology, hospital medicine, or the inpatient acute-care setting preferred.
• Experience managing patients with solid tumor malignancies preferred.
• Oncology or chemotherapy/biotherapy certification or experience is preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment, communication, documentation, and care coordination skills.
• Ability to work autonomously while maintaining close collaboration with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team.
