POSITION SUMMARY
The Emergency Medical Technician Instructor assesses, develops, updates and delivers the Initial EMT basic course, CORE and elective continuing education for EMTs.
The EMT Instructor communicates effectively with both internal and external stakeholders and works within the guidelines of the EMS department. The EMT Instructor accepts responsibility for the timely preparation and delivery of the initial EMT basic course, CORE and elective continuing education following all NJ OEMS regulations.
The EMT Instructor ensures that all material presented to students is up to date, engaging and informative through timely lesson plan preparation. The EMT Instructor will develop and utilize assessment tools to ensure that all students are receiving proper instruction.
The EMT Instructor may also serve as a Preceptor to new staff, build QI initiatives and assist with QA and address BLS clinical topics. The EMT Instructor must be familiar with department operations and policies and complete all clinical education and yearly competencies.
This position will ensure appropriate and coordinated use of educational and quality resources between AtlantiCare Departments, including both internal and external stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent required, BA/BS preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current National Registry EMT, New Jersey Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Certification, MICP, or RN/MICN required upon hire or transfer. New Jersey Emergency Medical Technician Instructor required upon hire or transfer. American Heart Association BLSHCP Instructor required upon hire or transfer. PHTLS Course Coordinator and PEPP Course Coordinator preferred. Proof of Valid New Jersey Driver’s License required. National Incident Command Courses ICS 100, IS 700, and IS 800 required upon hire or transfer.
EXPERIENCE: 5 Years’ BLS work experience in a 9-1-1 system. 1-2 years teaching experience with documented successful initial EMT basic, CORE and elective continuing education courses completed. Effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills required. Knowledge of all aspects of emergency policies and procedures and clinical applications required.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Potential for Psychological and physical stress. Work involves exposure to various climate extremes and weather conditions and exposure to disagreeable odors and body wastes. Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 50 lbs. and lifting patients up to 200lbs with assistance. Must maintain physical fitness necessary to move rapidly when required in emergencies.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to the EMS BLS Assistant Clinical Supervisor.
