Job Requirements
Position Summary
Responsible for the provision of basic life support pre-hospital emergency care to ill or injured persons. Provides age specific and culturally appropriate patient care through knowledge of growth and development. Is in charge of patient care given by ambulance crew and provides supervision for non-paramedic crew members and first responders.
Minimum Requirements
Education
• High School Graduate or equivalent

Experience
• Certified EMT

License/Registration/Certifications- acquired during apprenticeship program
• Certificate from Basic EMT program meeting DOT guidelines
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Preferred Requirements
Preferred Education
• Associates Degree in EMS

Preferred Experience
• 2-3 years as EMT

Preferred License/Registration/Certifications
• N/A

Physical/Mental Requirements
• Must be able to withstand stress/demands of active position
• Must be able to withstand many long hours of standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and driving
• Must be able to lift and move patients and equipment used
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
• Must be able to lift 135 pounds from floor to waist
• Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination and adequate vision is required for daily work
• Must be able to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations
• Must be able to work as a team-member with co-workers, staff, public and other agencies
• Must be able to function without direct supervision
• Must have good verbal and written communication skills and speak English fluently
