Position Summary
The Infusion Scheduler coordinates, creates and maintains the Infusion Schedule (chemo, transfusions, injections, blood, labs etc.). They schedule ancillary testing for Hematology/Oncology patients. They also pre-register all encounters with valid demographic and insurance information. In doing so, schedulers help to ensure efficient patient flow and appropriate testing while ensuring all financial procedures are followed in a consistent and appropriate manner. They are also responsible for the Check In process which initiates the patient lab visit for the day.
Department Summary
Qualifications
• The Infusion Scheduler must possess a High School diploma or equivalent
• Comprehensive knowledge of medical procedures and terminology (Preferred but will train)
• Comprehensive knowledge of insurance and authorization requirements by payer and procedure (Preferred but will train)
• The Infusion Scheduler has comprehensive knowledge of department schedules, resources, preps and guidelines

Skills
• The Infusion Scheduler must possess excellent customer service skills and ability to interact in a helpful, courteous and compassionate manner
• Excellent typing, spelling and verbal skills (Required)
• The Infusion Scheduler must have the ability to multi-task using multiple systems while handling phone calls, patient interaction and frequent interruption.

Responsibilities & Expectations
• The Infusion Scheduler schedules appointments for Infusion and Imaging via faxes, phone calls or electronic orders into the Cerner Win32 scheduling system
• Coordinate multiple tests in back-to-back time slots to assure the highest possible customer satisfaction and patient flow
• Work with departments and offices for urgent or stat ordered appointments
• On occasion perform medical screen questions for MRI and CT appointments
• Provide patient/office with preps, guidelines and directions associated with the appointment to assure patient is prepared and educated
• Initiate calls to assure all demographic and insurance requirements are completed on each patient encounter
• Validate health plan eligibility utilizing RelayHealth insurance eligibility system
• Utilize AHIQA quality system to ensure accuracy
• Check patients into the Infusion department upon arrival, presenting all necessary forms and documents and obtain electronic signatures
• Provide professional, efficient, quality customer service in accordance with hospital and department policies and procedures

Working Conditions
• The Infusion Scheduler shifts range from 6:30am – 4:30pm M-F or hours as required by the job.
• The Infusion Scheduler position is subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
• This position is located in brand new Timken Family Cancer Center

Hazardous Exposure Category
Category II - Includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues by exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate protective measures will be readily available to every employee engaged in Category II tasks.
