Job Requirements
The Community Health Specialist supports the development and implementation of community health strategies, programs, and initiatives across UMMS. Based at St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC), this role works both in the office and throughout the community to support outreach efforts, community partnerships, events, and health initiatives.
This is a community-based, non-remote position. The ideal candidate has prior community health experience, is comfortable engaging with diverse community partners and populations, and enjoys coordinating projects from planning through implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, implement, and monitor community health programs and initiatives.
• Coordinate community outreach projects, special events, and health education activities.
• Represent UMMS and SJMC at community events, health coalitions, and with external community partners.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations and internal stakeholders.
• Assist with the development of community health programs for targeted populations.
• Support the development and coordination of outreach and communication materials.
• Plan and coordinate projects with internal and external partners while managing multiple deadlines.
• Communicate project updates, plans, and outcomes to key stakeholders.
• Participate in community events and initiatives that promote the health and well-being of the local community.
• Maintain reports and track outcomes related to community health programs, events, and initiatives.
• Support department leadership with additional community health projects and initiatives as needed.
What We're Looking For:
• Community health experience
• Experience working directly with community organizations, partners, or populations.
• Strong project coordination, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal direction.
• Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
• Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification is preferred.
• Ability to work in a variety of settings, including the SJMC office and community locations.
Important: This position is based at St Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) and requires regular community-based work. This is not a remote position.
Work Experience
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred or at least 1-2 years experience and training in a health related field – i.e. health education, nutrition, exercise science.
• Two (2) to five (5) years of related or internship experience preferred.
• Current CPR experience and/or Emergency First Aid training preferred.
