Job Summary: The Clinical Exercise Physiologist will design, implement, and supervise exercise programming for individuals with chronic diseases where exercise training has been shown to be of therapeutic benefit, including but not limited to cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, and metabolic disorders.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology. Master's degree, preferred.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: American College of Sports Medicine Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP).
Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience designing, implementing, and supervising exercise programs for high-risk individuals with chronic diseases in a healthcare or clinical setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and other applicable software. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal that present clear and concise information. Demonstrated ability to interpret ECG rhythms. Ability to take vital signs and interpret symptoms. Ability to respond to and assist with medical emergencies calmly and efficiently. Ability to prioritize workflow and adjust as needed.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Measure and monitor heart rate, electrical activity of the heart (using Electrocardiography ECG)), blood pressure (via auscultation) and SpO2 (via pulse oximeter) before, during, and after exercise. Analyze the patient's medical history to assess their risk during exercise and determine the best exercise and fitness regimen. Perform fitness and stress tests with medical equipment and analyze patient data. Develop individualized treatment plans that will allow high-risk patients to meet their health and fitness goals. Use evidence-based behavior change models to provide counseling and facilitate exercise participation and lifestyle modification. Monitor the influence of commonly used medications on the response to submaximal or maximal exercise during assessments and training sessions. Deliver appropriate patient education on, but not limited to, physical inactivity, diet and nutrition, collaborative self-management, blood pressure/cholesterol/diabetes/weight/dyspnea management, tobacco cessation, depression and stress management, and supplemental oxygen usage.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.
Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
