COMPANY DESCRIPTION
Frye Regional Medical Center, located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina is a 355-bed acute care hospital, 81-bed Behavioral Health facility and more than 70 primary and specialty care providers.
Schedule
• Saturday: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• Sunday: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• One additional 12-hour shift during the week
• Total commitment: 36 hours per week
Position Summary
The Weekend Surgical Technologist & OR Coordinator serves a dual role supporting the daily operations of Surgical Services. This position functions as an additional Surgical Technologist for operative procedures while also providing coordination and administrative support through surgical scheduling, case booking, phone management, and case cart preparation. The role is designed to ensure efficient weekend operations, optimize surgeon support, and maintain readiness of the operating room environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Surgical Procedure Support
• Serve as an additional Surgical Technologist in assigned operating rooms as needed.
• Prepare and maintain sterile fields for surgical procedures.
• Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures.
• Anticipate surgeon and procedural needs to promote efficiency and patient safety.
• Assist with room turnover and preparation between cases.
• Ensure adherence to sterile technique and infection prevention standards.
Surgical Scheduling & Case Booking
• Coordinate and enter surgical procedures into the scheduling system.
• Verify procedure details including surgeon preferences, equipment requirements, implants, and special instrumentation.
• Communicate scheduling changes and updates to appropriate departments.
• Collaborate with surgeons' offices, anesthesia, nursing, and ancillary departments to facilitate efficient case flow.
Communication & Coordination
• Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming phone calls to Surgical Services during scheduled hours.
• Appropriately triage calls and communicate urgent issues to leadership and clinical staff.
• Provide exceptional customer service to surgeons, physician office staff, patients, vendors, and internal departments.
• Facilitate effective communication between perioperative departments.
Case Cart Preparation & Supply Management
• Prepare and verify case carts based on scheduled procedures.
• Ensure required instruments, supplies, implants, and equipment are available prior to scheduled cases.
• Collaborate with Sterile Processing and Materials Management to resolve supply or instrumentation issues.
• Assist with inventory management and supply restocking.
Operational Support
• Assist with weekend coordination of daily operating room activities.
• Identify and communicate operational concerns, supply shortages, or scheduling conflicts.
• Support efficient patient throughput and on-time case starts.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives designed to enhance department efficiency and patient outcomes.

Minimum Education
• High school diploma or equivalent required
Certifications:
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
Licenses:
• Certification for Surgical Technology with the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
• Competent in at least 3 specialty areas.
