JOB SUMMARY: Provides direct patient care to patients at the MAHEC OBGYN Franklin + Cullowhee clinic locations and, as desired and appropriate, in Mission Hospital. Assess, diagnose and treat obstetric + gynecologic conditions, independently or as part of a healthcare team. This role is 90% direct patient care and 10% clinical administrative time.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide direct patient care to patients at the MAHEC OBGYN Franklin + Cullowhee locations. Position will primarily be assigned to Franklin clinic.
• Provide routine prenatal, postpartum, and gynecologic care including annual wellness exams, contraceptive counseling + initiation, insertion of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), pelvic + speculum exams.
• Order, perform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests, such as complete blood counts (CBCs), point of care ultrasound, non-stress tests.
• Analyze and interpret patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
• Develop treatment plans based on best practices and professional practice guidelines.
• Diagnose or treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, or injuries.
• Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized.
• Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, or herbal remedies.
• Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
• Detect and respond to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations.
• Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances.

SPECIFIED SKILLS
COMPUTER:
• Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications required.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE:
• Spanish speaking skills preferred and eligible for compensation add on

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Light - Moderate energy level: Lift and carry 25 - 35 lbs, Push/Pull 50 - 100 lbs (empty bed, stretcher, etc.)
• Occasional (0 - 33% of Workday)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• NP experience or two (2) years of experience as NP practicing in OBGYN

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Clinical practice in an urgent care or acute care setting preferred.

REQUIRED LICENSES:
• Current NC RN license required.
• NCBME or eligibility for legal approval required.
• DEA Certification required.
• Valid NC driver license required.

SCHEDULE:
Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.
