POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, directs and oversees all biomedical equipment management activities for Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District and El Centro Regional Healthcare Center. Responsible for the operational management of the biomedical engineering program including preventive maintenance, equipment repair, equipment lifecycle planning, regulatory compliance, and staff supervision.
Ensures the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of all patient care and clinical support equipment across both hospitals and associated clinics. Oversees Bio-Medical Coordinators and Bio-Medical Technicians and collaborates with clinical departments, facilities staff, and vendors to support hospital operations and patient care.
Maintains compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements including Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, FDA, and other applicable healthcare regulations governing medical equipment management programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Maintains established hospital policies, procedures, objectives including safety, quality assurance, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
• Directs and oversees the biomedical equipment management program for Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District and El Centro Regional Healthcare Center.
• Establishes and monitors workflow for biomedical services including preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment testing.
• Supervises Bio-Medical Coordinators and Bio-Medical Technicians.
• Plans, assigns, and reviews work performed by biomedical staff.
• Ensures completion and documentation of preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance for all clinical equipment.
• Maintains department records and reports statistics for administrative and regulatory agency purposes.
• Oversees biomedical equipment inventory and lifecycle management programs.
• Coordinates equipment inspections, safety testing, and performance verification for patient care equipment.
• Assists in evaluation, selection, and pre-purchase review of biomedical and clinical equipment.
• Coordinates acceptance testing and installation of new biomedical equipment.
• Develops and maintains equipment service contracts and vendor relationships.
• Works collaboratively with clinical departments to resolve equipment issues and support patient care operations.
• Provides training and technical support to clinical staff regarding the safe and proper use of biomedical equipment.
• Maintains and updates technical literature and service documentation for biomedical equipment.
• Coordinates biomedical support for off-site clinics and hospital departments.
• Assists with development and management of the biomedical department budget.
• Ensures biomedical equipment management program compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
• Provides technical support during regulatory inspections and accreditation surveys.
• Works collaboratively with Facilities, Information Technology, Infection Control, and Clinical Engineering programs.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, Clinical Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
Graduate of an accredited civilian or military electronics program or equivalent biomedical engineering training may be considered in lieu of degree.
Minimum five (5) years experience in biomedical equipment maintenance or clinical engineering.
Minimum two (2) years supervisory or management experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of medical equipment management programs and healthcare regulatory requirements.
Experience with hospital biomedical equipment including patient monitoring, infusion devices, imaging support equipment, and life-support equipment.
Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Strong troubleshooting skills in electronic and mechanical systems.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid California Driver’s License.
Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job involves frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping and lifting. Exposed to a variety of electro-mechanical hazards. Use of hand and power tools required.
