The Billing Specialist in the Customer Service department serves as the first line of contact for patients of AnMed Health. Billing Specialists are expected to be the primary point of contact, by phone, voice mail, email or face to face, for patient concerns, questions, or complaints regarding hospital and professional billing. Responsibilities include following the proper communication channels to resolve issues and relay information obtained back to patient/guarantor to ensure AnMed Health has addressed all issues in a professional and timely manner.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Maintains knowledge of Government, State, HIPPA, and Commercial Insurance/Managed Care, rules, and regulations governing billing compliance.
• Maintains provide billing information so claims can be successfully processed and transmitted to third party payers.
• Analyze, research, and independently resolve claim submission edits by obtaining information from the medical record and applying CMS rules and regulations, CPT coding guidelines, and departmental policies and procedures.
• Ensure claims are submitted in the proper format and to the correct destination as defined by the requirements in the facility’s various Third-Party Payer contracts.
• Resolve issues with payer sources, reporting any ongoing problems to the appropriate manager or supervisor.
• Recommend accounts for contractual or administrative write-offs, along with appropriate justification and documentation.

Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Prior experience working with the public.

Preferred Qualifications
• Prior electronic and/or hard copy billing.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Background in Accounting and/or experience in accounting.
• Prior experience working with Government, State, and Commercial Insurance carriers.
• Knowledge of Corporate Compliance issues in regard to HIPPA and Government Programs.
