Job Description
The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Nursing Operations and Strategy serves as a senior nursing executive and key strategic advisor to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), providing executive leadership for the advancement of professional nursing practice, nursing operations, workforce strategy, clinical innovation, and organizational excellence across the health system. The AVP is responsible for shaping and executing the strategic direction of nursing and ensuring alignment of nursing priorities with the organization's clinical, academic, research, quality, safety, workforce, and operational objectives. As a member of the Nursing Executive Leadership Team, the AVP leads development and execution of the Nursing Strategic Plan; oversees nursing workforce analytics and long-range workforce planning; promotes nursing innovation, research, and scholarly activity; supports external recognition and benchmarking initiatives; and serves as a liaison with academic institutions, professional organizations, and regulatory agencies to advance the mission and reputation of the organization. The incumbent champions a culture of excellence that supports transformational leadership, shared decision-making, evidence-based practice, professional development, patient-centered care, and continuous improvement across nursing. Working collaboratively with nursing, physician, operational, academic, and administrative leaders, the AVP develops innovative strategies that advance nursing practice, improve nurse-sensitive outcomes, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, and foster a high-reliability culture. The AVP serves as nursing's executive representative within the Quality and Patient Safety structure and is accountable for ensuring that nursing perspectives and professional practice standards are integrated into organizational quality, safety, regulatory, accreditation, and performance improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business or related area and seven (7) years related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
