Responsibilities
The Department of Anesthesiology at the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama is seeking faculty physicians to provide clinical, educational, and scholarly services in support of the missions of the College of Medicine and USA Health.
Faculty members will participate in the clinical care of patients across appropriate inpatient, outpatient, surgical, procedural, and perioperative settings. Faculty responsibilities will include patient care, teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows, participation in departmental and institutional activities..
The Department of Anesthesiology is developing its academic and clinical programs within the Whiddon College of Medicine while continuing to support the established anesthesia services of USA Health. Faculty will have opportunities to participate in the development of educational programs, residency training, research, quality improvement, and other academic activities.
Essential Functions
• Provides high quality, evidence-based anesthesia care to patients in accordance with applicable clinical standards, University and USA Health policies, and professional and regulatory requirements.
• Participates in clinical coverage, scheduling, call responsibilities, and other departmental activities as assigned.
• Provides education and supervision to medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Participates in departmental and institutional quality improvement, patient safety, performance improvement, and other initiatives designed to improve patient care and clinical operations.
• Participates in the development and advancement of the Department of Anesthesiology's academic mission through scholarly activity, research, educational scholarship, quality improvement, and innovation.
• Works collaboratively with members of the Department of Anesthesiology, USA Health, the Whiddon College of Medicine, and other clinical and academic departments as needed.
• Participates in departmental meetings, committees, and other administrative activities as assigned.
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the department.
Applicants must possess an MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school and be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Alabama.
Applicants must have completed an accredited residency in Anesthesiology and meet the qualifications necessary for clinical practice and hospital privileges appropriate to the position.
Board certification or board eligibility in Anesthesiology is required Board Certification or Board Eligibility by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) or the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology (AOBA).
